Get to know our teachers – Britta Crockett (German Language)

Britta Crockett was born in Germany and raised bilingual as her mum is German and her father is American. At the age of 9, her father accepted a work offer in Milan, Italy, so the whole family had to relocate. Here, she was educated at a German School, but since she’s been living in Italy for almost 30 years now, she has a very good knowledge of the Italian language as well. “I absolutely adore French which I understand pretty well, but don’t get a chance to practice it on a regular basis, therefore it is at a basic level.”, said Britta.

She then relocated a couple more times, including back to Frankfurt a.M, Athens, Greece, Denver, USA, and Dundalk, Ireland but she finally ended up buying a house in a little town in the countryside close to Bologna, Italy. Read on below and get to know more about one of our teachers at Bicortex Languages.

Details about Britta

Before starting to teach full-time, Britta worked as a waitress, sales assistant, commercial assistant, and commercial manager. At the end of 2018, with two young kids to take care of, she decided to turn her passion for languages into a permanent job. Since then, she says her job has been extremely rewarding.

“I started working with Bicortex (formerly Eszett) in November 2020 teaching German. Since that time, I have worked with private as well as corporate clients, including individual and group lessons. What I love at Bicortex is the international feel. During these 2 years, I’ve met people from all over the world, some relocating to foreign countries, others that study the language because of some particular connection that matters to them.” Britta said.

Probably based on her personal experience, she likes to give her students some insights into German culture, compare cultures and find interesting similarities in habits and language. All her classes are adapted to personal needs, but generally, her lessons provide a mix of conversation, grammar, listening, and writing.

Britta insists on having conversations with students on all levels and as soon as possible because she strongly believes that that’s the goal that students want to achieve – being able to integrate with their new community. Nelson Mandela expressed this perfectly by saying: “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”

Overview

During her free time, Britta loves to take care of her garden which includes a little vineyard, enjoy her 2 kids, or in the winter – it’s just good to cuddle up under a cosy blanket watching a movie or reading a good book. Furthermore, she loves to travel, meet new people, and enjoy new experiences whenever possible.
